Alexandra Gilbert Rudy is a PhD student in Music Education at Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College in upstate New York. Prior to attending Northwestern University, Alexandra served as the Director of Bands at Annapolis High School. There, she conducted concert and marching bands, pit orchestra, and pep band while teaching several general music courses, including those for Spanish-speaking multilingual learners.

 

As a doctoral student, Alexandra serves as a fellow in the Center for the Study of Education and the Musical Experience and a graduate teaching assistant for various undergraduate and graduate music education courses. She is also a member of the Northwestern Music Cognition Consortium and holds an interdisciplinary certificate in Cognitive Science. Alexandra's academic interests include the accessibility of music education, multilingual learners, women in music, and programming decision-making.

 

Alexandra has also been involved with Northwestern's athletic bands as a graduate assistant for the Northwestern University Marching Band (NUMB), the Assistant Director of the Northwestern University Basketball Band (NUBB), and the Director of the Purple Band. In addition, Alexandra maintains an active teaching and performing schedule in the Chicagoland and DC-Metro areas.
